ADOPTION POLICY

Upon choosing a companion pet to adopt, you will be required to complete an adoption application if you have not already submitted one online. The purpose of this application is to ensure your home and family are suitable for the companion pet you have chosen and that the pet is right for your family and home.  It is our goal to permanently place companion pets in stable, supportive and loving homes.  Our aim is to place each animal into a permanent and loving home. Therefore, to ensure a good match between the adopter and the available animal, we require an adoption application to be completed.  If your application is not chosen, it doesn't mean there is something "wrong" with your application or home.  It just means that we are trying to fit that pet into a home that is going to be just right.  When we have one pet who is desired by many homes, it is very difficult to decide which application will be the best fit for that pet, but we do our best. Once your adoption application is approved, in most cases you can take the animal home the same day.

Renters must fill out a
Landlord Permission Form and have it signed by your landlord prior to adopting a pet. This is to provide you and your adopted pet protection from a landlord who might change his mind.

Adoption applications must be filled out.  They are available online under "Forms/Applications".

We accept cash, checks and Paypal.  There will be a surcharge on Paypal to cover their fees to us.

WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE ADOPTION TO ANYONE FOR ANY REASON.

Declawing a cat is a painful and unnecessary operation.  Please read the following article:  http://www.declawing.com/

* Certain breeds may be priced higher. Some cases may result in lowering of adoption fee.

The Waverly Humane Society has adopted pets to MN, NE, IL and we look forward to adding more states.

We do not ship pets.

We are happy to reduce adoption fees if an animal has been sponsored or a donation towards their care has been given.  If you have a low income issue, please ask about potential assistance programs.

We will not adopt into a home that intends to keep their pets outdoors 24/7.

We try to have as much information about the animal as we can, but sometimes that is tough. Strays rarely tell us where they have been and some owners don't feel it is necessary to give certain information to us.

We try to keep the animals exercised and mentally stimulated. We try to provide some basic obedience training as well. As we grow, we will need volunteers who would be willing to help with these daily tasks. Please keep us in mind if you would like to work with the animals.
